The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) successfully concluded its Ministerial Meeting 2025 on 31 May in Tokyo, Japan, marking a significant milestone in the region’s ICT agenda. The two-day high-level event brought together representatives from 31 Members and 2 Associate Members, including 16 Ministers and 7 Vice Ministers, under the theme “Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Sustainable, Inclusive, and Equitable Digital Transformation in the Asia-Pacific.”

A major outcome of the meeting was the unanimous adoption of the “Tokyo Statement”, a forward-looking ministerial declaration that outlines a shared regional vision for digital cooperation over the next five years. The Tokyo Statement identifies six strategic priorities:

A.    Digital Connectivity

B.    Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship

C.    Trust and Safety

D.    Digital Inclusion and Capacity Building

E.    Sustainability

F.    Partnership and Collaboration

In his remarks, Mr. Masanori Kondo, Secretary General of the APT, stated, “The Tokyo Statement is a product of collective wisdom and shared responsibility. It presents a clear and actionable vision for how we, as a region, can use ICT to promote innovation, trust, and sustainability while respecting the unique circumstances of each country. What we have achieved here is not simply consensus, but a renewed commitment to cooperation in a rapidly changing digital world.”

The meeting was graciously hosted by the Government of Japan, with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications playing a leading role in ensuring the success of the event. Their efforts facilitated productive dialogue and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to regional digital development.

The outcomes of the APT Ministerial Meeting 2025 set a strong foundation for coordinated and inclusive digital transformation across the Asia-Pacific region in the years ahead.
